Footnote 69:

The 1555 edition omits this mention that Nicolaus Stopius managed the Venetian office of the Bomberg trading company. In the medieval tradition, the craftsmen who did the actual engraving remain unnamed. Vesalius nowhere mentions the artist on whose drawings the engravings are based. On the possible role of John Stephen of Calcar, see (inter alia) Ivins 1952, pp. 85ff.
