Footnote 39:

Regarding this last charge, it is useful to recall Guenther of Aldernach’s preface to the 1539 edition of his Institutiones anatomicae, a compendium of Galenic anatomy: “should anyone value the work because of its Galenic bias, let him know that the work is mine; should anyone despise the work because it is my handiwork, let him know that the work is Galen’s.” tr. Cushing 1943, p. 50. Vesalius had implicated himself in the very offenses he complains of in this preface to the Fabrica by publishing his own version of Guenther’s Institutiones in 1538.
