Corrected to Pindar in 1555. The reference is probably to a passage near the beginning of the third Book of Galen’s De usu partium (3.169.15 ff.), where the author comments on Pindar’s acceptance of the myth of the centaurs: “But we who are concerned with truth rather than legends know well that the substance of a man is utterly unable to mingle with that of a horse.” See Pindar’s Second Pythian Ode, 44-48.
